#451: Thankful for the right to vote

Nantucket was incorporated
over a hundred years before America was:

Islanders take their civic duty to vote seriously.
A full parking lot,
sign holders supporting their candidates.
Even if we have to get the kids in and out
their car seats, we vote.
Last night’s tally:
6128 out of 8443 Nantucket’s registered voters voted:
a 73% turnout.
Of course, Oak Bluffs on Martha’s Vineyard
tallied in at 81% so there’s room
for improvement.
