#450: Odysseus’ voyage home

30 days of thanks: day 4
I am thankful, as a parent,
for excellent schools.
Although I homeschooled my kids
for many years, it wasn’t because Nantucket
doesn’t have amazing teachers.
This is what my freshman just finished
for her English class:

Odysseus’ 10 year, fourteen step journey home.
The banner is about six feet long and three feet high.
Click on the picture to see the detail.

My favorite detail,
Odysseus tied to the mast as his ship sails past the sirens.

Recognize these faces?
Zayn, Niall and Louis from One Direction.

A sleeping Odysseus on his final sail.
English assignments can be fun…

  1. Wow, that's great. I think we are lucky on Nantucket to have so many different schooling options given how small we are. We haven't decided yet what we will do for Nora, but it's nice to know there are lots of different resources available. I may have to pick your brain about homeschooling at some point.

  2. how fun! i still remember a few teachers from my school days, 100 years ago more or less. they can be quite inspiring. i remember an English teacher who allowed me to use a corner of his blackboard on which i was able to write a running short story – a new segment every week or so. i guess you could call it my first blog 🙂 but this is yours and you certainly have good reason to be thankful. your daughter did a great job!
