#160: Celebrating The Fourth of July, Nantucket style

First, Downyflake donuts.
 Plus  one piece of Scotch-Irish cake to share.
 Then, out to Bartlett’s Farm to pick strawberries for tonight’s cheesecake:
Four quarts should do it.
Then, to town for the firetruck showndown on Main Street:
 Huge crowds, well, huge to me.
 Flag flown high.
 The crowd does not stay dry. Most wear bathing suits.
 No one is safe.
Not even photographers.
Then off to the beach where the fog rolls in
and we wonder if the fireworks will be cancelled:
But it clears and they aren’t.
The rest of the day is taken up with cooking
 for the picnic we always bring to the fireworks.
Our family likes to watch from Steps Beach,
 then sing patriotic songs with the crowd on our way out.
