#133: Plastic and Produce

The Stop and Shop has been wonderful lately about providing all sorts of organically grown produce:
That’s my youngest doing her Vanna White impression.
The odd thing about this organic spinach is that it’s wrapped, then packaged in,
plastic.
After the farmer works so hard avoiding petroleum-based products on his plants,
why does it need double layers of plastic?
And if you buy loose produce, they provide handy-dandy–you guessed it–plastic bags!
Why not bring-your-own reusable bags from home?
Of course, you don’t want to pay for the weight of the bag.
My checkout person was glad to weigh my bag separately
so now I know to tell them to “tare 8”.
That’s better but best is still:
Growing your own.
Beauty and bounty in the garden.
