It’s May! It’s May!

Mayflowers blooming in the State Forest
Mayflowers are the state flower of Massachusetts. I just read they’re lightly scented, so I have to go back and have a sniff. Did you know we also have a state heroine? Her name was Deborah Sampson, a descendant of William Bradford (who sailed on the Mayflower), and she fought in the Revolutionary War. You can look her up here. Fascinating.
This is Rue. I have absolutely no resistance to cute chick pictures.
Another name for mayflowers is trailing arbutus. Sounds so lethargically Victorian.
Its botanical name is Epigaea repens which translates: on the earth suddenly.
 Easter. Resurrection. Joy.
On the earth, suddenly.
